Dr Jess Chan obtained her bachelor’s (First Class Honours) and doctoral degrees from Institute of Textiles and Clothing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 2014 and 2019 respectively. During her doctoral study, she taught textile technology and engineering as well as 3D body scanning, modelling and simulation of textiles and fibrous materials at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

After graduation, Dr Chan took the post of Chief Technology Officer in the Active Biotechnology (Hong Kong) Company Limited. Before joining this institution as a lecturer in 2022, Dr Chan had been a Visiting Lecturer of the School of Professional Education and Executive Development (PolyU SPEED) and Hong Kong Community College (HKCC) since 2021. She has been teaching engineering design subjects at sub-degree and degree levels, such as Product Design and Society, Engineering Design Fundamentals and Engineering Graphics and Computing.

Dr Chan is active in research and her major research interests include design and development of functional garments, thermal and mechanical analyses of textile materials, 3D human modelling and development of sustainable composite materials. Her research experience also covers the areas of fibrous biomaterials, medical orthoses, smart textiles, fit tests of respirators, modelling and simulation of textile processes and parameters.
