Mr Chang Hoi-wood received his Bachelor of Social Science (Architectural Studies) degree and Master of Architecture degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. After his graduation, he was the Senior Architectural Designer at EDGE Design Institute and was the Designer-in-Charge of the renowned award-winning project "Suitcase House, Commune by the Great Wall" (Beijing). Other major projects he was in charge of included "International Concept Plan Competition for the Development of an Integrated Arts, Cultural and Entertainment District at the West Kowloon Reclamation"; "Three Pacific Place Showroom", "Light Hotel". From 2003 to 2005, he received a fellowship from the state government of Baden-Württemberg, Germany and was the artist-in-residence at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart.

Hoi-wood started his full-time teaching after his return from Germany and joined The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design in 2007. He then joined CPCE in the summer of 2009 and now serves as the Associate Division Head of the Division of Social Sciences, Humanities and Design and the programme leader of the Associate in Design (Environment and Interior Design) programme.

Hoi-wood's works have been presented in exhibitions, screenings and performances over the years. Selected works included: Toilet Paper Walling (installation, HK, 1997); Interweaving (installation, HK, 1998); The Daily Mood of Final Certainty, or House of August (video, HK & London, 1998); SIXHIBITION (installation, HK, 1999); Sino116 (installation, HK, 2000); Horti Cultus (installation, Stuttgart, 2004); Interference (installation, Stuttgart, 2004); Monument (installation, Stuttgart, 2005); 60 Fragments of Time (dance, HK, 2006); Intuition_Operation_Construction (exhibition, HK, 2009, 2010, 2011); Geometry of the Sentiments (exhibition, HK, 2024). His studies and design proposal "Development as Freedom" won the Merit Award in the "Design Competition for the Revitalization of Tai O", and his project "Place-making at Schools" won Design Mark Winner of the Golden Pin Design Award 2022 and was the nominee of The Golden Cubes Award (nominated by The Hong Kong Institute of Architects, orgainised by International Union of Architects).

Hoi-wood was appointed as the co-chief curator of the HKIA Architecture Exhibition in Los Angeles "Island_Peninsula - Glamor, Efficiency, Orderliness & Constant Change: Making of the Hong Kong Architecture Landscape" in 2019, the co-curator of the feature exhibition "Dimension of Living: A House is" for JCCAC Festival 2020, and the co-chair of the "Hong Kong Interior Design Week 2021". His work was also showcased at The Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition and Art Basel Hong Kong. Hoi-wood is a member of the Executive Committee, Hong Kong Interior Design Association. He is also currently the project owner of an Arts Tech project and a placemaking project funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

Hoi-wood's research interests focus on community architecture, installation art, curatorship and placemaking. His pedagogic studies cover design thinking and spatial design fundamentals, etc. He has published articles and has given talks on "Placemaking", "Sustainable Development of Tai O", "Comparative Studies of Chungking Mansion", etc.

Hoi-wood was a recipient of the "CPCE Outstanding Teaching Performance/ Achievement Award 2018/19" and "CPCE Awards for Outstanding Research-Scholarly Performance 2019/20".
