Teaching and Scholarly Interests: Accounting & Finance
Dr Jandia Poon graduated from the Monash University (Australia) where she received her bachelor’s degree in Business, major in Accounting and sub-major in Law and Computing. Subsequently, she obtained her Master of Education (with distinction) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and her Doctor of Business Administration from the University of South Australia.
Before joining HKCC in 2007, Dr Poon worked at managerial positions in listed companies. Her extensive corporate experiences comprise managing the implementation of the in-house developed accounting information systems and facilitation of the training related to these systems, and setting up the training department of an e-commerce company, among others.
At HKCC, Dr Poon teaches subjects related to Accounting and Finance, including Intermediate Accounting, Financial Accounting, Business Law, and Financial Management. Moreover, she has served as thesis supervisor for the University of Northumbria at Newcastle (UK) since 2007. Her current research interests include management information systems, e-Learning, accounting education, and knowledge management. She has published refereed papers in international journals and international conference proceedings. She also serves as a reviewer for Computers and Education, and Academy of Management.
Dr Poon actively organizes service projects and student activities. She is the founding adviser of the Rotaract Club of Hong Kong Community College Students’ Union. Since the formation of the Rotaract Club in 2012, she has organized and participated in a wide range of student projects, such as service trips to Thailand and Zhaoqing, a visit to an orphanage in Shenzhen, breaking the Guinness World Record for “the longest handshake chain,” the Rotary 10KM fundraising race, and others.
